Greetings from the homeland. It's Monday and you know what that means, time for another round of I Challenge You To a Mix. This week is a little different; I wanted to do something for all the lads and lades that have so diligently e-mailed, commented, texted, tweeted and otherwise, sending in music suggestions. This one is for you. If you hate it well... you made it, but I hope you don't hate it. As cool as mixwit is, I couldn't find all of your tracks on there so I hope you'll follow the links to the bands and listen to them.
Lucie writes from Italy about a band named Negramaro, perhaps it's safe to call them the Coldplay of Italy. Mixwit doesn't have much on them but you should go check out the bands myspace page.
Kathrine is from Denmark but she loves French music and suggests Yelle.
She's so good and she has songs about love for women.... Check it out :-)
There are TONS of Yelle remixes floating around the interwebs, this lade is really kind of awesome.
Anwei is in a band called Seedis, the self-described 8 piece band that does everything from rock to hip-hop, jazz-reggae, r&b-funk, go-go to folk, has a documentary in the works and you can watch the trailer here. Unfortunately, nothing for this band on mixwit so you'll have to go directly to the website to listen.
Lelani from Los Angeles writes to us about The Monolators,
They're a husband and wife team with a couple regular guest players every now and then. They were actually my professors in college and tried to keep the band thing to their students on the down low but a few of us knew. They're style is indie/punk.
Kerry from Ireland called me a ledge, I hope that's a nice thing to say. She has a band called Calvin Party that she wants you to know about. They're signed to a label based in Liverpool and their first single is out this September entitled "8 Days".
Mary from Sweden loves Oh Laura (formerly Laura). I like them too, but again, mixwit only generated thirty second clips. Check out this link Mary included from Youtube
Maddie from San Fran wrote in about her band called Camp Out.
Beth hopes that you like Sick of Sara,
Sick of Sarah is an all chick band from Minneapolis who will pretty much, "rock your face."
Abby from Malaysia sent some local Malaysian indie artists; Reza Salleh , Yuna, Mia Palencia, Kokokaina (Malaysian Singer based in LA)
Hannah representing the UK dropped; Friendly Fires, Sam Beeton and Sam Issac on us.
Aunt Red wants you to hear a PDX band called Guidance Counselor.
And last but certainly not least,
Cap says, "Give Jóvenes y Sexys a go if you haven't already heard of them."
And that is that! Thank you for your kind e-mails, keep up the great work and see you in season 3!
Liz and I gave a shout out to our friends Natalia Zukerman and Rachel Cantu this week, we love them and so should you.
If you are in NYC, I'm DJ'ing with Chris Kent at Legion (790 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, NY) this Thursday night from 11pm-4am. It's going to be trouble. Also, Holly Miranda (The Jealous Girlfriends) is doing a rare solo set at Zebulon, August 30th and it's not to be missed.
