Yet another remix of 'My Moon My Man'

I can't sleep. That means I'm trolling the internet and reading way to much news, which in the end will preclude me from sleeping anyway. However, over at You Ain't No Picasso there is a nice Grizzly Bear remix of "My Moon My Man" by you know who that I think will help me get the last few images from the BBC news site out of my head so I can trail off to counting sheep land.

Mysplice III

Stereogum and Team 9 have their annual mysplice mash-up, mix-up for download here:

For the third year in a row, we've turned to master bootlegger team9 to take some of our favorite songs of the year and mash them together. On Stereogum & team9 Present... MySplice III you'll hear familiar blog hits from artists like Lykke Li, of Montreal, the Breeders, Bloc Party, Crystal Castles, and Beck remixed with beats and vocals borrowed from some of the year's most inescapable pop hits. (There are some oldies thrown in, too.)

Lesbian Vampires

So, when I was in college I used to have this reoccurring nightmare about being hunted by lesbian vampires, it's similar to my zombie dream wherein I never see said monsters but I know they are right behind me... I think it's commonly referred to as paranoia. Go me.

Drop the Giant Crab

I don't go out on New Years Eve anymore, actually it's a trend that started last year, because the year before my friend Eddie and I were jumped at 5 in the morning while he was walking me back to Amy's in Williamsburg... So, I don't go out on New Years Eve anymore I stay home to watch the ball drop with Mom and Dad. However, if I lived in Frogtown, PA I might watch them drop a frog. Here is the Farmers Almanac's Wackiest Objects Dropped on New Year's Eve:

1. Bologna (Lebanon, PA)
2. Big Cheese (Plymouth, WI)
3. Pickle (Mount Olive, NC)
4. Opossum (Tallapoosa, GA)
5. Gumbo Pot (New Orleans, LA)
6. Steamroller (Steelton, PA)
7. Giant Peep (Bethlehem, PA)
8. Walleye Fish (Port Clinton, OH)
9. Wrench (Mechanicsburg, PA)
10. Sardine (Eastport, ME)
11. Cigar (Richland, PA)
12. Frog (Frogtown, PA)
13. Wooden Duck (Havre de Grace, MD)
14. Acorn (Raleigh, NC)
15. Giant Crab (Easton, MD)
16. Indy Car (Carlisle, PA)
17. Pear (Fredericksburg, VA)
18. Hog (Fayetteville, AR)
19. Conch Shell (Key West, FL)
20. Olive (Bartlesville, OK)

Be safe wherever you are!

Holly Daze at Zebulon

Describing last nights Holly Daze extravaganza at Zebulon as fucking CLASSIC would be nothing short of the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The troops were out, the hippies were dancing, the kids were playing, the sing-a-long was singing, I think I was the only sober person in the house and that was because I woke up 30 minutes before the show! All weekend I was in bed with 102 fever and then suddenly some divine intervention came down and sweated it all out of me, I woke up threw on some make-up and called a car.

First up was Marques Toliver he opened up the night with four beautiful songs, and pretty much set the precedent for the evening. What follows are the photos that Megan Ghiroli snapped as we went along. There was music from Midnight Masses, Eugene and Marisol (of Scott Matthew's band), Natalia Zukerman, Tim Mislock (Abandoned Lighthouse), Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, and the first ever performance by Holly Miranda's solo band! and LOTS of singing along.

Marques kicking it off

Natalia Zukerman and I (apparently the only two Jews in the room) leading the entire crowd to the first night of Hanukkah Brucha.

Midnight Masses... this is just one formation of Midnight Masses they're like the BSS of Austin except more goth.

Amy "Mama" Caramante and Holly Miranda during a rousing rendition of Baby It's Cold Outside.

Tim, Marques, Janice and Holly cover some Leonard Cohen

If anyone has photo's of the covers sing-a-long from the end of the night please e-mail them to me and I'll post'em. Lots of ya are travellin' today so straighten up and fly right. Have a safe holiday and I'll see you (a handful of you) on New Years Day!

A few things before I go out to find snow boots.

First: It's snowing balls in New York.

Second: This Sunday I am hosting Holly Miranda's Holly Daze group sing along holiday extravaganza celebration. It's open to all (21+) and it's FREE! There are some very special guests, who I can even talk about because if I spoke about them on the interwebs we'd be packed beyond capacity and that's no fun for a holiday show such as this. The few, the brave, the tire-chained of you in the Tri-State area are welcome to join us at Zebulon around 9ish Sunday night.

Third: Everyone else is doing it and so am I. Here are my Top 10 Fav Albums from this year...

1. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
2. Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
3. Hercules and Love Affair - Hercules and Love Affair
4. Department of Eagles - In Ear Park
5. The Hold Steady - Stay Positive
6. Tv on the Radio - Dear, Science
7. Kings of Leon - Only By Night
8. Black Mountain - In The Future
9. No Age - Nouns
10. The Cool Kids - Bake Sale

I also loved Lykke Li, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts (Re-issue), The Jealous Girlfriends, Deerhunter... I actually think it was a pretty good year for music, don't you agree? I mean at this point the only people who are making any money are the kids who get placed in commercials, video games, tv/movies or selling the shit out of their merch so like, at this point, if you're in this game to become a rock star your shit outta luck... you have to love it more than that.

That's just my little Friday sermon, now back to watching the snowflakes accumulate on Amy's terrace... Oh and why are sorority girls still so retarded?

R.I.P Mixwit

Ugh, first the economy and now this...

We regret to announce that Mixwit will cease to exist at the end of the
year. The website and profiles will be turned off around Dec 27th and
all embedded widgets will stop playing before the end of December.

We’ve put a year of work into Mixwit so this choice wasn’t taken lightly. I
won’t go into the details of our situation but state simply that we
boldly marched into in a position best described as “between a rock and a
hard place.” We’re very grateful to be have been part of the mixtape
revival of ‘08 and are satisfied to be able to to bow out while things
are still good.

You guys are all amazing. It’s clear that all of you put a ton of time and
effort into your mixes. For me personally, I was looking forward to all of
the designs people created for their tapes. There was a lot of basic tapes
and many lovely photos, but the designs and artwork - WOW!

We’re very sorry that this has to end. We’re going to try to figure out
some way to archive the artwork and playlists, if for nothing at least
historic value. As for now, everything needs to be shut down by the end
of the year just to make sure we’ve got a clean start for 2009.

We’ll return early next year with a new company and new toys. Until
then, enjoy the holidays and please take good care of yourselves,
your families, and your friends =)

- Radley & Mike

New York I Love You (But You're Bringing Me Down)

Again, I neglect. Not on purpose I swear. Getting life settled back in New York and wow, Brooklyn has become really really white, and maybe not in a good way. So yeah, on that note have a great weekend. I'll be around next week.
